Hello to all NIFAST Certified Home Inspectors;
I have recently been in contact with many of our certified inspectors, and have been happy to hear how inspectors are using their certification to add to their current book of business. If you are one of the inspectors I have recently spoken with on the phone, I thank you for your time and the opportunity. Our network is expanding, and I hope to reach each of you in the next several weeks.
What you have shared with me shows promise, in that fire safety inspections are needed and necessary! You shared that you are utilizing NIFAST inspections in different ways: as an add- on inspection to a radon or mold inspection; or leading with the fire safety inspection angle to set you apart in the marketplace. Marketing your business, getting your name out to realtors, fire chiefs, insurance agents and in the community have proven fruitful, and time well spent. This ground level, guerilla marketing on your part has helped to build awareness so that someday, fire safety inspections will become automatic, and not an add-on service or after thought. I thank you for your diligence and practical methods of hands-on marketing.
Here is what is going on behind the busy doors at NIFAST.
Raising Awareness
We are continuing to raise awareness to the need for fire safety inspections and are promoting to national associations like the National Association of Realtors and other groups to promote fire safety inspections. We understand we need to keep raising the awareness. Like any new service, it takes promotion on the ground level by the certified inspectors as well as support from NIFAST to make a successful venture. Our recent influx of press releases (in response to our email blast) has received a favorable response in the marketplace.
Press Releases to Target Markets
NIFAST put in place targeted press releases for the inspectors in geo-targeted areas. This is a direct response to our inspector feedback. We generated some good PR from the original pitch, and will continue to source circulars that make sense for our community and cause. If you have any suggestions, feel free to send them our way, as we are always sourcing new avenues for our pitch.
Standards of Practice
The response from our inspector network for a standards of practice has been overwhelming. We appreciate your willingness to improve our certification process, and the SOP is an appropriate next step. The NIFAST Standards of Practice (SOP) will be released to all of our inspectors in the next few weeks. The SOP will assist inspectors in the process, enable your customers to understand the purpose of the inspection, allow your insurance carriers to understand exactly the standards of a residential fire inspection, and set criteria and standards for a complete inspection.
Our College Communities
The last item I wanted to speak about is the residential inspection of properties in the college environment. NIFAST is gaining a lot of exposure with our FLASHPOINT program (training for the student community in fire safety) and have recently added Gordon College in Wenham, MA as the latest college to purchase our program. The FLASHPOINT program is aiding colleges with their annual fire safety report required by Public Law 110-315 (Higher Education Opportunity Act). This act requires information at the university level to provide information about their fire safety risk, and what is being executed to educate the campus community and hopefully, help lower their risk and prevent campus fires. In the process of speaking with every college and university, we have been in contact with off campus housing authorities and the need for fire safety inspections for those off campus residences is raised. I am encouraged by the positive feedback, and I know that with your efforts as certified inspectors to landlords and campus communities, we can increase your business, and have a positive result on building safe communities.
Communication
NIFAST has embraced many online marketing techniques to help spread the message. Over the next several weeks, we ask you to continually seek updated information through our blog, and to fan or “like” our Facebook page. We plan to utilize the Discussions tab on Facebook as our ongoing forum. Please take a moment to click on the Discussions tab on Facebook, and participate by providing your valuable feedback. We will be posting a new discussion series weekly.
In conclusion, we appreciate everyone’s time to become NIFAST certified, and we hope you continue to use this certification to increase your current book of business. Adding fire safety inspections to the customers you currently serve is one step closer to providing safe environments in the communities we live and serve.
Thank you again for your dedicated service and consideration of NIFAST.
Sincerely,
Steve Smith – President of NIFAST
