During 2009, more than 2,600 individuals in 17 countries pledged their support for the 2009 Building Safety Week. Also in 2009, The President of the United States, governors, mayors and county officials from 31 states issued Proclamations, Official statements and Letters of Recognition in support of Building Safety Week. For the first time, the International Code Council (ICC) and International Code Council Foundation (ICCF) have expanded Building Safety Week into a month-long Building Safety Month campaign to expand opportunities and increase awareness about the critical importance of building and designing safe, sustainable and green structures in the United States and worldwide.
